Settling In

1-16-17

It rained all weekend and I felt sorely behind on workouts when I woke up. I've been pretty good about working out every other day for the last week or so, but normally I can do about 5-6 workouts a week.

Since it's a holiday, I hit the gym a little later than usual, maybe 9:50a or so. It was totally empty when I got in. My plan was to just do 1000 meters so I could do another sport later. (Also, we had a ton to do around the house too.)

After about 10 minutes in the pool alone, the place started to boom! By the time I got out, it was more full than I'd ever seen it and two guys were sharing a lane.

Things I observed and learned today.
1. I love to do the breaststroke. But I am very, very, very slow. How slow you ask?
Well, there was an older gentleman doing some water running in the lane next to me.
He sped right past me.
*take that, ego!*

Either I need to speed the HELLokitty up, or get stronger with my freestyle

2. I'm getting faster! I did my 1000 meters in about 25 minutes today! Woo!

3. Short hair- waaaaaay easier to get into a swim cap. Waaaaaay easier.
Oh, yeah, BTW- I donated 10 inches of hair on Friday! Yes, it's still weird.

Oh, something new, I wore my sports bra to swim in for the first time, since eventually that will become normal. It wasn't a bad experience by any means, but logistically, I didn't really plan it out. For some reason I was thinking I could wear the same sports bra for both a swim and a run. (which yes, you could.) But I didn't factor in the fact that I wouldn't be going straight from the pool to my next sport. My subconscious thought I would just hang around in a wet sports bra for a few hours? I have no clue. This is what happens when I try to do the planning before the coffee hits.

Post swim, we staged the house for photos so we can finally get our AirBnB up! Staging meant a full deep clean and arranging things nicely.

Once that was done, I hoped on the bike for an hour while Raz had a business call. Normally, I would listen to my audiobook and stare out the window, but since I moved into the back room with zero view (other than the side of the neighbors house), I had to learn how to use Netflix on my computer. Well, I know how to, what I mean is I had to learn how to use Raz's blue tooth headphones to hear it. The trainer is so danged loud, you practically have to shout over it. Anywhoodle, bluetooth headphones for the win! I watched the first episode of Black Mirror while sweating away!

I worked harder on keeping my heart rate above 130 during the hour long session and man, I could tell a difference!

Tonight is whisky, ribs, and scrabble!

Transition Lessons

11-7-16 Y'all, so yesterday I volunteered to help out at a 'Best of the Best' triathlon in Denton. I had no clue what I really signed up for, but true to form the race director (RD), Jeff, was super nice. I've found that to be relatively consistent across sports. I told him I had just signed up for my first try and wanted to observe how things went so I could better understand what I was getting myself into! I left the house around 6:30am and got there about 7:30. The parking lot was pretty empty since the race didn't start until 9:30am. What was cool is that the few people who were already in the lot had their music blasting and seemed to be having a great time! I met Jeff in person and he directed me over to the transition area. Turns out, there were only about 6 volunteers total! *Lesson Learned: Races may be understaffed- do your best to know the rules before starting*   My first endeavor as a tri volunteer would be as a 'body marker'. which means ...

11/22/16 I'm alive! Mexico was phenomenal and I got the chance to use my newly created swimming skills out in the ocean! We did a ton of snorkeling and now I'm sad that we have ZERO snorkeling in Texas. A cool thing I noticed was that I'm so much more confident in the water now than I ever have been. Whenever I've gone snorkeling before or had to swim in the ocean, I more or less panicked. This trip I actually enjoyed myself. It's great that the salt water helped make me extra buoyant as well!! This morning I was back at the gym by 5:30am. I read that doing 16 lengths (back and forth) in a 25 meter pool is 400 meters. (Simple math escapes me again.) This is about how long most Sprint Tri Swim distances are. Well I've never really attempted to count all the lengths I swam since I was mostly focused on drinking less water. Now that I'm writing all this down, it's clear to me I did my counts wrong. I wasn't counting a back and forth lap, merely co...

No more wine

2/7/17 Thanks for indulging me yesterday, I feel much better now. Once I got out of the house and started coming up with practical ideas of how to feel better, the sunshine came out. I went to the Botanic Gardens, one of my favorite places in FW (thank goodness it's free) and read fitness magazines. Between articles, I would get up and do 10 squats. It's ridiculous how high my HR gets now. My brother in law found this on instagram. Old school! My non exhaustive plan for March: 1. Document preggers workouts (need more/any photos)       This will be good for me because it will motivate me to make forward progress and to know remember where I'm at. Of course I still want to be performing at top (or even mid) level, but I'm blessed to be having a baby and I need to embrace where I am now. 2. Go kayaking this month       Yessss... What's not to love about this? 3. Work in the garden more       Well, due to all the drama we had...
