5k and Beignets!

3/12/17

This morning I got up earlier than I should have, about 6am, to get ready for a fun and untimed 5k. I thought it started at 8am, but apparently it was 8:30. Dang, could have gotten a few more zzz's!

It was brisk this morning too! It was 43 when I left the house and I wore capri's, a tank, and a pullover. Sitting in the car, I was positive I had over dressed. The minute I got out of the car, I was suddenly aware I had UNDERdressed. I could have used an ear warmer and some gloves!

They had a clock out to time yourself, but that wasn't the point of the run. There were only a handful of people out, likely due to the stupidly cold weather.

Overall I was happy with my performance, I did the first 1.5 mile in 15 minutes, took a brief walking break at the turn around, and then powered back. The wind was rough!! When I finished, the clock said 32 minutes, which is about my usual time.

My ears were frozen and my hands numb, but I still managed my post race selfie with the Beignet Bus!

FW Run Co Christmas Tree Run!

12-20-16 Yesterday Amy P and I met up at the Fort Worth Running Company (FW Run CO, for the hipsters), around 6pm so we could run their annual Christmas Tree run. It's when a large 'herd' of people run from the FW Run CO to the Big A Christmas tree in Sundance square (1.5 miles), take a picture, then turn around and head back. Last year they had Adidas mugs with hot chocolate and Baileys! This year it was the FW RUN CO mugs with hot coco and cookies! Well, it was hovering around 32 degrees when we started out and let me tell you- that is brisk for this girl. I was wearing a long sleeve tech shirt, a short sleeve shirt, a hoodie over that, ear warmers, capris and gloves! Obviously, over dressed as I was sweating like mad, but the minute I would take something off, I'd freeze! The way up to the Christmas tree has a particularly unkind uphill, but it was fun to push! I like running in urban areas because you get to stop at all the red lights! We made it to the Tree...

11/22/16 I'm alive! Mexico was phenomenal and I got the chance to use my newly created swimming skills out in the ocean! We did a ton of snorkeling and now I'm sad that we have ZERO snorkeling in Texas. A cool thing I noticed was that I'm so much more confident in the water now than I ever have been. Whenever I've gone snorkeling before or had to swim in the ocean, I more or less panicked. This trip I actually enjoyed myself. It's great that the salt water helped make me extra buoyant as well!! This morning I was back at the gym by 5:30am. I read that doing 16 lengths (back and forth) in a 25 meter pool is 400 meters. (Simple math escapes me again.) This is about how long most Sprint Tri Swim distances are. Well I've never really attempted to count all the lengths I swam since I was mostly focused on drinking less water. Now that I'm writing all this down, it's clear to me I did my counts wrong. I wasn't counting a back and forth lap, merely co...

Goggles!

11-2-16 Got up at 4:45am and was in the pool by 5:30am. I wore goggles for the first time and definitely got cocky. I had a ton of water go through my sinuses. Half the pool I’m sure. I was able to go back and forth 2x with the breaststroke and then back and forth plus one with the freestyle. Small upgrades but I’m making progress! I think I did 45 minutes of good movement and then accumulated 10 minutes of lunges and heavy breathing. Wow. I got a hell of a workout. There were several times I had to stop and pant. Excessively. And don’t worry, I ate leftovers for breakfast (black beans and broccoli) and then had a few chocolate grahamn crackers. Ah well, can’t win them all. I don’t have to go in until later tomorrow so I’m thinking about swimming again, just because I have more time. I’ve decided I can get my booties when I can swim for 10 straight minutes. Oh, and guess what! I signed up for the Lifetime Fitness Indoor triathlon on 1/8/17! It’s a 10 minute swim, a 30 minute cyc...
